GCTA Trustees
As a registered charity, Greatworth Community Transport Association is managed by its
Trustees. The number of trustees is defined in the charity’s Constitution which states a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7. There are five appointed trustees initially and they serve for a period of three years from 22nd April 2020. The current Trustees are:
- Richard Hooper (Chairman)
- Martin Gaskin (Treasurer
- Simon Bingham
- Jane Murphy
- James Dobson
The trustees are responsible for the strategic planning, legal compliance and smooth running of the charity, including its financial affairs, administration and organising the volunteers.
GCTA is a “not-for-profit” organisation which means that all income received is reinvested into the services provided and used for the benefit of the community. All trustees, administrators and drivers are volunteers and give their time free of charge. The financial accounts have to be submitted to the charity commission annually and during the three-year grant period, the finances must be reported every six months to the grant authority. Any surplus funds at the end of a financial year will be used to further the purpose of providing transport through subsidised operations, expanding the services or any other ways of serving the community.
Funding
GCTA was funded by a grant from the HS2 Community & Environment Fund for the
first 3 years of operation. This covered the running costs for the 3-year period.
During this time, passengers made voluntary contributions when using the minibus
and the funds that built up enabled us to continue with another minibus for a further 3
years.
During this second 3-year lease we have had some funding from Greatworth & Halse
Parish Council. With 1 year to go on the current lease (at time of writing) we are
looking at other funding opportunities to enable us to enter a third minibus lease.
Community Transport Association (UK)
In all parts of the UK, thousands of community transport staff and volunteers help people to stay independent, participate in their communities and access public services and employment. The Community Transport Association is a national charity that represents and supports these organisations such as charities, community groups, schools etc, who all provide transport services that fulfil a social purpose and provide community benefit
GCTA is a member of CTA(UK) who has assisted us in starting up, meeting regulations and reparing procedures to run our services. It is with the advice from CTA that we decided to run the services under a Section 19 Permit.
